In the late 1800s, visionary architect Illdefons Cerdá took on the task of designing what would become the Eixample district of Barcelona. The area was designed in a grid-pattern, made up of hundreds of octagonal blocks, which made for bigger, sunnier and airier streets. The Modernista architectural movement, defined by its use of ornate detail and dynamic shape, influenced much of the design for the individual buildings in this area and many of Barelona’s iconic buildings, including the Casa Batlló and the Sagrada Familia are located here. Whenever we get the chance, we love walking these beautiful streets, and exploring all the different things this amazing city has to offer.
