Shopbop’s Fashion Director Caroline Maguire meets up with us in her current favorite Citizens looks to talk balancing career and motherhood in style.

"As the Fashion Director of Shopbop, I handle trend forecasting for the seasons to come, find new designers to join our family, and I partner closely with the buying, planning, marketing and PR teams to bring these trends to life! My team and I set the front page content – with 365 days (yes, every single day of the year) of new front-page content. It’s quite the undertaking!"

"As far as what I wear, I always want to be on top of my A game. I always approach the day’s outfit by checking the weather first, especially as a New Yorker! There is no ‘typical’ daily uniform for me. Each day is super different. One day I can dress in wide leg jeans with a cropped sweater, another day I will wear a hoodie with a metallic skirt. I think my outfits through down to the shoe when putting together a look. Every piece matters!"

"I love the versatility of denim. It’s such a great foundation piece that can go with ANYTHING in your closet. When I pick out a pair of jeans, I look at the rise, fit, and wash: The Rise – the higher the better, the Fit – has to be comfy, the Wash – clean with barely any deconstruction to it."

"This gorgeous anklet is actually from my amazing nanny Pema. She made them while she was in Tibet ages ago. I never take it off!"

"Being a mother has definitely affected the way I dress. I am all about sneakers, flats and easy shoes. I can’t be bothered running around in heels all day with kids. I do have a tip for all the mamas out there – if you are in a wardrobe rut or are too busy, either plan the night before or stick to your go-to’s and add on from there. For example, if you know your go-to jean is the Citizens Gia – then just grab an easy bright sweater to go back to the denim and the fit feels fresh again."

"Clothes are such a fun statement. I love experimenting. This straight leg feels great, and looks great with a directional dress over it. The most important advice I have is to be comfortable in what you wear. Never wear something that makes you feel like you are having an out of body experience. You need to be you and be confident with the clothes you live in!"
